How many of you recognize this scene? If you do, you probably have been to Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
Boone and Appalachian State are inextricably linked together and fall is a fabulous time in this southern mountain town. It won’t be long until Mountaineer Football excitement is running high for students, faculty and the town.
But until then, Boone offers a great place to hike, paddle and bike. When winter rolls around step onto your skis or snowboard. The fun is just outside your doorstep. If I didn’t love my home, I would move!
I have great memories of summers in Boone. It just has a great feel to it and is a wonderful place to visit and have a ramble around. It’s no wonder Blue Ridge Country readers chose it as the happiest mid-sized town in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Just down the road in Valle Crucis, you will find Mast General Store. In operations since 1883, The Mast General Store now sells a little bit of everything at a group of stores along highway 194. But, the thing everyone enjoys the most is the candy. Barrels of candy!
The candy is located in the Mast General Store Annex which is just before you get to the original Mast store.
You pick up a basket and grab your favorites. I’d show you what I got but I ate it all!
You’re sure to find something you love!
Get yourself a soda and a snack and pull up a chair:)
And finally, I’ll leave you with my last stop of the day. There was just enough time to fit in a brief visit to the Grandfather Mountain Vineyard and Winery before heading home.
Hope you’re all set for a wonderful and safe July 4th! I might be checking out a winery or two:)
